Japanese-Canadian potter living in Vancouver Island
Emi Yokokawa/ 横川 江美
Emi is a Japanese-Canadian artist who was born and raised in Japan. She was attracted and has been doing pottery since 1996. She took an intensive 2-year professional training at Hokkaido Industry and Research Institute and worked as a pottery instructor at Ebetsu-City owned Ceramic Art Centre then moved to Victoria in 2012.
She is a wife and a mother of a teenage son. Emi is also an ECE , working with the children at a daycare since 2014. She restarted to teach pottery in Victoria since 2019.
Emi is passionate to pursue and explore Japanese culture including Japanese martial art and tea ceremony on her free time.
Emi loves to walk to the gardens & beaches daily and get inspired by nature.
千葉県出身。1996年に陶芸に魅せられ、陶芸をライフワークにする決意をする。陶芸修行のため北海道立工業試験場窯業科陶芸部門にて二年間研修の後、江別市セラミックアートセンターにて陶芸指導員として勤務。2012年にビクトリアに移住。妻であり高校生の息子の母。保育士として地元の保育園に勤める。2019年よりビクトリアでも陶芸を教える。日本文化に関心が深く、武道と茶道に勤しんでいる。公園やビーチに散歩するのが日課。
